Have you registered a domain name (or want to register one), but don’t want to host a website or email just yet? No problem– we’ll park it for you, free of charge provided you have one active hosting account with us.
The main advantage of registering and parking your domain name, is that you are assured that you have your preferred domain name available for use when you are ready, and it prevents someone else from registering the domain name until you are ready to host your website or email. The only disadvantage of domain parking is that the domain has no functionality.
But once you are ready, hosting and email can be activated on the domain name the very same day.
|One Active Hosting Account||FREE domain parking|
|No active hosting account||R50.00 per year, excluding domain renewal cost|
At Newnet, our Domain Pointing service (also known as website forwarding) is designed to successfully point domain names to alternate domain names. The point of this is to minimise web hosting costs for customers who own multiple domains. For these multiple domains, a company need only run one active web hosting account while Newnet points visitors to the active domain and website of your choice.
Domains act like a doorway to your products, services and online information resources. The more domains that point to the same source, the more traffic can be directed thereby increasing business opportunities and exposure.
Forwarding is the affordable alternative to hosting. If you have and would like to utilise more than one domain name, each domain can be used to provide the same data or website.
Register and forward a domain name at a very low cost while still receiving the added benefits of an actual website being displayed instead of a Default Web Hosting page.
This prefix indicates what kind of protocol your browser needs to communicate in to interact with the information on your domain. HTTP stands for hypertext transfer protocol is the most common protocol for Internet Websites although there are others such as HTTPS and FTP.
The “www” indicates that your domain is part of the World Wide Web. (However, when you use our services you can also access your domain by going directly to http://newnet.co.za).
This is the domain name we selected and acts as our virtual address. It can be the name of your business, your surname. Plainly put, this name links to your business.
The domain extension indicates either what type of organisation your website represents OR where your website is located in the world. So for example, a .ORG domain will tell a user that the website is an organisation, while a .NET will indicate that the website is a network. .CO.ZA is the domain extension that will indication that a website is hosted in South Africa.
If you want to get a website and you want people to find you on the internet, you need a unique name that can be identified with your business or brand. It tells customers where to find you.
Choosing a good domain name is important. If the name does not match your business name then it must be closely related to the products or services you sell. Your domain name must also be easy to remember so that customers do not have to work hard to find your site online. Having a registered domain name with a live Website is sometimes the first priority for a business today, because it is a very inexpensive way to get your business name and information in front of the public.
Other primary reasons for a business to register one or more domain names is to protect copyrights and trademarks, secure unique product names and increase their brand awareness with the public.
Once a domain name has been registered, it is no longer available. The most popular and easily-remembered domain names are being reserved daily, at an alarming rate. At this rate, in the near future, only obscure domain names will be available for registration. Avoid somebody else from registering the name you want.
John Clarke is a wedding photographer and lives in Randburg. He realises in order to attract more customers, he needs a website with information, an online portfolio and ways to contact him. In order to get his website ready, he needs a web designer/ company, a domain name and a hosting account.
Because John has been in business for quite some time now, most of his past customers know his business as John Clarke Photography. Because people don’t always keep information with them, they might only remember his name or the name of his business. In order to get the right domain name and make sure people find him on the internet, he can choose to register one (or all) of the suggested domain names below. Take note that the longer you take to register preferred domain names, the less chance there is that it will be available for your use later. Product/Service keyword domains are almost not available anymore.

To transfer a .co.za domain name, you first need to advise your current hosting provider that you want to cancel your hosting account with them. Most hosting providers need 30 days notice of your cancellation. Take note that if your account is up to date, and you have given them notice, you are usually free to transfer your domain name 60-Day within that 30 days.
Secondly, you need to advise your current Web Hosting Provider that Newnet will be taken over hosting of your domain name and that they need to accept domain transfer tickets send from newnet.co.za
Third – Newnet will submit a domain transfer ticket to Uniforum – the COZA domain registrar. From the time the ticket was submited, the current hosting provider and/or the client, have 24hours to accept or reject the domain transfer ticket. If the ticket was accepted by atleast one of the domain contacts, the domain will be updated once the 24hour period is over. If you are not listed as a domain contact, it is very important to make sure your current hosting provider accepts the domain transfer ticket. If no votes were received within that 24 hour period, Newnet will have to submit a domain transfer ticket again, taking another 24 hours for the domain to be transferred. Once the domain name is updated, the domain DNS can take between 1 and 24 hours to propagate to Newnet.
Note that during propagation period, visitors and emails can be directed to either the previous hosting provider, or to Newnet. To have the least downtime and email loss possible, it’s best to request your domain transfer before the end of the month when your current host cant yet delete your domain or hosting. This way, you can upload your website onto your Newnet hosting account before the transfer is complete, setup your mailbox to start catching emails. Within the propagation period, it wont matter to which server your clients are directed, as your website will be visable on both servers and email will either go to the old or the new server. To download emails from the old server once the transfer is complete, simply keep your old email settings, change the POP3 details to the old mailserver IP, and download the mail. (Once your website and email are deleted from the old server, you wont be able to download emails sent to that mailboxes)
If you did not register the domain name yourself, you need to do the following in order to get your domain transferred to Newnet.
Note: Top Level domain names cannot be transferred within the first 60 days after it has been registered or transferred. So if you have a brand new domain name, and you want to transfer to Newnet, you will not be able to transfer the domain name. You then need to contact your curent hosting provider and request that they update/change the nameserver details from their side. (Some Web Hosting providers will do this free of charge, whilst others may charge you for this.)
First ask your current hosting provider to unlock your domain name and to provide you with an Authorization Code. Ask them who the adminstrative contact for your domain name is. The reason you need to know this, is because the domain transfer ticket will be send to this person. Most of time, the current Web Hosting provider will be the adminstrative contact for your domain.
Secondly, Newnet will request the domain transfer. An email will be send to your domains administrative contact. This email will contain two very important codes that is needed to finalise the transfer. Without these codes, Newnet will not be able to transfer your domain. You can always ask your current hosting provider to foward this email to you. If they do not want to foward it to you, they need to provide you with the following two codes:
Transaction ID: 53725216
Security Code: DZYS26653
Once Newnet is in posession of these two codes, we can authorise the domain transfer process. For most domain name extensions, the move between registrars takes from 5 to 7 days once the transfer is authorised. The process and time required for the transfer can vary for certain extensions.
